In order to save on fuel, so many companies these days are going for electric cars. Chevrolet has come up with its latest Volt car built on the same lines. This 5-door, 4-seat front-wheel-drive hatchback car gives the top speed of 161 km/h. Its 370 Nm torque lets the driver attain acceleration instantly from 0 to 100 km/hr in just nine seconds. When fully charged, the Volt can run up to 50 kilometers without using even a drop of gas.

The very first thing that comes to our mind is what if the battery gets discharged? The answer is a gasoline-fueled engine which has been equipped in the Volt to keep the battery in running position. This makes it easier to drive the car even more than 500 kms after the battery gets discharged. Later, the battery can be recharged into any 230V household outlet.

The Volt offers its drivers a choice of 5 driving modes viz. normal, sport, mountain, hold, and low shift. In the normal mode, Chevrolet Volt gives maximum efficiency in terms of power.

Talking about the main point, i.e., the electricity consumption, the Volt has an electric range between 40 and 80 kilometers. This electricity is stored in 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery that emits zero CO2. Chevy’s Volt is indeed eco-friendly; but what about the electric consumption? The question of generating more electrical energy is a matter of concern these days. Let’s see how many buyers Chevrolet’s Volt grabs.

Are you ready to meet the last Honda in action? The new vehicle will be available in two versions, with 3 or 5 doors and it will come in 3 options: with petrol and diesel engines and a hybrid version.

Nobody knows for sure, but the new Civic Hybrid could also be the first car in the Honda lineup to receive the next-generation lithium ion batteries.

The concept was designed by 21-year-old Yuhan Zhang. To put it short, the Volkswagen Aqua is an all-terrain hovercraft and you can feel free to use it on lakes, rivers and coastal waters, roads, wetlands and snow and ice.

The hovercraft comes with four little electric motorized fans and a hydrogen cell powered engine. What is more, this hovercraft looks simply cool. Frankly speaking, the styling of the Volkswagen Aqua is extremely clean and simple.

The interior has enough room for two people.

The manufacturer claims that the base model will come with a 5 hp (4 kW / 5 PS) electric motor and a top speed of 45 km/h. But the mainstream model starts at €7,690 and boasts a 17 hp (13 kW / 17 PS) electric motor with a top speed of 80 km/h.

Both cars are powered by a lithium-ion battery and it ensures to travel up to 100 km on a single charge. The battery will be fully recharged in approximately 3.5 hours.

The new Porsche is a super all-wheel drive an advanced plug-in hybrid super sports car that offers 500-plus horsepower, 4.0 liter V8 engine and it is assisted by two electric motors with 218 combined horsepower. According to Porsche claims that the new 918 Spyder will need not more than 3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers and emit 70 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

The idea is amazing – the car promises to be super fast and at the same time eco-friendly and completely electric one! 

The Porsche 918 Spyder will be a two-seater that features a carbon-fiber reinforced plastic monocoque and a manual roof system with removable panels. The worst part, the 918 Spyder will be limited to 918 units and the first car will hit the market by 2013.

Unfortunately, the details are limited, but reliable sources claim that the car will be an open top speedster boating exceptional aerodynamic styling, a low windscreen, and exceptional driving performance.

What is more, the CM will feature a 7.0-liter V8 engine, six-speed manual transmission, and a stunning acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 340 km/h.

The car looks everything but boring and its functional possibilities drive me crazy. The frog-like concept car, called “Splash”, can reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour above water.

“Splash” was designed by the Zurich-based firm, Rinspeed.

• Toyota Prius

You will hardly find the better hybrid. The car was introduced to the U.S. in 2001, and now the Toyota Prius is the world’s best-selling hybrid car. What is more, it is the most fuel efficient gas-electric powered vehicle. Apart from these two characteristics, the car is rather big, spacious and offers a plenty backseat legroom and ample hatchback cargo capacity.
