Well, my daughter turns 17 next year, and she has decided on a Smart For Two. It will arrive in Jan. '09, and is black/black, but the side stripe can be changed to silver for a small fee. The Mercedes dealership has an open rollcaged display version for viewing, so we can see what is under the skin. It is much the same design as a race car's roll cage with airbags. Of course, she needs to start Driver School sometime soon, and is both excited and scared to drive. Anyway, after driving the Smart car, my impression is that it is a very safe first car for non-highway driving in the suburbs. As someone who likes to drive fast, I found the paddle shifters as useless as the shifter, and would suggest just leaving it in the automatic mode.
